Candy Lane Acres is approved by the Girl Scout organization, and we offer a program that is both fun and safety oriented for children of all ages. The program can be enjoyed by Girl Scout troops seeking to earn a badge or other youth groups of all types. The program costs $45 per rider.
Please call the barn at (412) 741-6822 or email us at [email protected] for availability and additional information.
A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to hold the date. The balance can be paid on the day of the activity by either cash or check.
The one-day program lasts one hour and includes the following:
A 30-minute session will teach the girls:
- How to work safely around horses
- Grooming (everyone gets to participate)
- Different types of saddles and bridles for English and Western riding
- How to put on a bridle and saddle
- Different breeds of horses
- What horses eat
- What it is like to own/care for a horse
The second 30-minute session is riding time
Each participant receives a basic riding lesson and has the chance to practice the skills that they have learned. Riders learn how to motivate their horses to move forward, stop, steer and maneuver safely around objects and other horses. Each rider will be matched with a horse for their level of riding. Those that have prior riding experience will receive more advanced instruction and are permitted to ride at a more advanced pace.
ALL riders are required to wear helmets while riding. Candy Lane Acres will provide helmets for guests that need them. Participants are also asked to wear long pants and shoes or boots with a small heel. Tennis shoes and shoes with thick soles are discouraged. For cold weather riding, all participants are advised to dress warmly and wear gloves. Even though most of the activity takes place in the barn or the indoor riding arena, the weather can still be chilly.
ALL riders under the age of 21 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian, no exceptions. Click here to download waiver. Please bring signed copy for each participant.
